Project tracking: what going on

≡ Category: IT |

There are four variables to efficient task management: expenditure, timing, duration and producing a satisfactory result. Professional project managers also aim at making the organization of work more efficient. Most undertakings employ such recourses as labour, funds, and tools to produce results and hit selected targets. There are a number of factors that are very important for efficient project management. You can see a number of such factors in the list below:

- Establishing objectives and carrying out analysis.

- Managing risk. The majority of projects have a this or that degree of risk.

- Finding people and tools for the project.

- Defining the outcomes of the project.

- Controlling the project in terms of who is doing what and when.

- Making sure that the products of the project are of satisfactory quality.

- Managing changes. Change happens. Most tasks develop in time, so the factor of change has to be accounted for.

- Speaking with everybody doing the project.

Traditional ways of managing projects, such a pen and paper, can be employed to manage most of these things. But you get quite a few benefits if you decide to use project tracking software:

- It simplifies scheduling. The length of work can be adjusted by the program using the workload information. You can create work time-tables for various employees. Tracking work-in-progress also becomes easier to manage.

- Coordinating several projects with various requirements. Project tracking software allows project executives to observea larger picture and aggregate information on a number of projects.

- It helps you find the critical path. The critical path of a project consists of tasks that determine the real length of the project. If a task on the critical path takes longer than expected, the whole timing of the project will be altered. Whereas other activities that are not on the critical path can take less or more time without changing the duration of other activities in this project.

- Allowing all involved be aware of what is going on. The more intricate are the project requirements, the more of them have to be talked about. Productivity tracking software makes dissemination of data simpler than it has ever been before.

Is it always necessary to employ task tracking software?

Project management solutions might not be suitable in 100 percent of all cases. The most suitable time to reap the benefits from such software is when you work on a few large projects. It could be a good idea to manage simple projects manually, so that you do not have to incur big overhead associated with operating complicated programs.
